Banco ABC Brasil: A wholesale-focused Brazilian bank

Problem
Expand corporate credit while controlling default, sector and economic-group concentration, and portfolio deterioration.
Role
Data science specialist contributing to B2B credit scoring, corporate risk assessment, and portfolio monitoring.
Approach
Contributed to corporate credit scoring and rating analytics, financial and sector-risk assessment, economic-group exposure analysis, limit-setting support, and early-warning portfolio monitoring.
Impact
Contributed to B2B credit analytics during a period in which the bank’s expanded credit portfolio reached R$26.2 billion, up 7.0% year over year, led by 29.6% growth in the Corporate segment. Portfolio quality remained strong, with loans over 90 days past due at approximately 0.3% and provision coverage reaching 684% at year-end 2018.
Lessons
In wholesale credit, early warning and concentration monitoring create more decision value than highly precise models that identify deterioration too late.
